Monday, May 5th

After watching this video, I feel like my thoughts have been put into words. I can't even count how many times I see a group of friends literally not talking and just sitting on their phones playing useless games. I once saw a group of twenty freshmen in the Fixed Forums, and not a single one of them was talking to each other. Instead, they were all on their phones, doing nothing at all.
Social interaction isn't how it used to be, and we need to change it. People aren't engaging in conversation and interaction like we used to. Now, like the video said, it's staring at a name on a computer screen rather than looking at someones face. It's getting to the point where looking someone in the eye when they speak is awkward and uncomfortable because it's unfamiliar to us.

What is a 'splash page'? Look it up. Explain what they are and how they are used. Find an example of a splash page in Google Images. Save the image to you computer and then upload it to your blog post. Hint - see below. A splash page is a way to show what you're about, but not revealing too much detail about it.

Status update! Tell me where  you are at on your product website? Can you be finished by tomorrow at the end of the hour? Do you need more time? How much more time? Be honest and explain yourself.

Right now I only have a few pages left to finish. I need to be working in Photoshop to create images for those pages, and then I'm done. I already managed to link up all my pages on my own... it isn't rocket science. I think I'll be done by the end of the hour tomorrow, maybe even before that.

Welcome back! How was your Spring Break? Tell me all about it. You've been out of school for 10 days so I know you will have plenty to share. Make it good!

I slept during the day and played video games and listened to a lot of music during the night. I also had my friends Will and Gio over to spend the night. We walked to Walmart and took a shortcut through a creek where we found a really old style bike and that was a lot of fun to attempt to BMX on. At Walmart we got soda and chips. We spent the day playing pool and playing music really loudly in my basement. Then we crashed around midnight. Over all, it was a lot of fun, and it's better than being cooked up in my room every day with nothing to do.

Do you like the layout of this project? Have you benefited from your brainstorming sheet? Was it more helpful or annoying when starting to map out your website? Explain why.

I am pretty okay with the layout of this project. It's benefited me in the organization of my project and my website. It was definitely a huge help when designing and building my website.

After reading below to see where you should be on your product website - are you caught up? What helps you stay caught up in class? Do you like having small checkpoints? Are you behind? If so, what are you going to do to get caught up?

I don't know if I'm all caught up or not, but I'm at a descent place. I have my header made and I need to get my footer made in Photoshop. Things that help me stay caught up are small checkpoints for sure. I also like being able to see the assignment and what is expected of me to be on BV Business. That way, if I get lost or confused I can look back there to help me get where I need to be.

What idea do you have that is going to make you product website different, unique or unlike anyone else? If you're answer is you don't know - it's time to start THINKING. Explain your idea.

I'm going to provide information about the different kind of skateboards, what different skateboards are used for, what skateboarders are really good, etc.

What product have you decided to feature/sell on your product website? Explain why you've chosen this product and remember, the sky is the limit on this project!

I am thinking about either making a skateboarding magazine or a website that sells skateboards. This is because I know a lot about skateboarding, and thoroughly enjoy it.

What are three things you learned about color theory and web design  yesterday? Go in to detail.

I learned that certain color combinations can result in a different appeal to your website.
I also learned that I am definitely colorblind. Which kind of colorblind is kind of debatable,
but red-green seems to be in my area of being blind. I've always been kind of iffy when it comes to colors, and I wasn't sure if it was because I was color blind or just stupid, but was never 100% sure
I was colorblind until now.
And lastly, I learned how to accommodate for color blind people, making sure that my website is not 100% color coordinated and making sure that the user doesn't have to rely on color to navigate around.

What effect can a color scheme have on a website? How can it make a website better? How can it make a website worse? Explain why color is important.

A good color scheme can make a website appear really good. A bad color scheme can draw people away from the website because it would look awful, or couldn't be read to people that are color blind.

What did you learn about file types as you created and designed your travel website? What are some other kinds of file types you know of? What do these different files do? Explain.

We learned about .PNG, which is another form of image file, and .PSD, which is a photoshop file. Another file type I know of is .GIF, which is multiple images in one file that are played in a sequence.

What was your takeaway from this Travel Site? What did you learn that you didn't know before? How will the knowledge of how we built this site help you improve your future websites?

I learned how to make roll-over images, and use Photoshop. Being able to use both of these will help me create better websites in the future.

It allows you to make custom images for your site.

What do you know about Photoshop? Have you used it before? What can it do? Are you an expert? A newbie? Tell me about your background and what you already know.

I know Photoshop is a tool used to edit photos. It can do really amazing things. I've personally never used it before, nor am I an expert.

Think about how a user (me or anyone else using your site) might function and interact with your site. What are some important functional features to make your website easy to work with? How can you make it easier for the user and not frustrating? Explain why this is so important.

An important feature is being able to click a link to go to any webpage on your website. That way, there is no unnecessary clicking that has to be done. People prefer to be able to get to things by the click of a button, not clicks.

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend. If you didn't go to Sweetheart, what did you do? I want details!

I did not go to sweetheart. Neither me or my girlfriend wanted to go, so I stayed home and ate chips on the couch. Eating potatoes while being a potato. I didn't watch the superbowl either, I slept from like 6pm to 4am. My weekend was not unlike any other weekend.

Tell me about your All About Me site. What are going to be your 4 main content pages? Why did you choose those topics? What big plans do you have for your site that is going to make it different and creative?

I'm still not sure how I want to do my All About Me site. I'm thinking about making a short quiz at the end, or something like that. I think it would be kind of fun and interesting.

What are your thoughts on HTML code? Did you enjoy the coding activity? Do you feel like you learned anything? Explain yourself.

I really like HTML code, and I really enjoyed the coding activity. I felt like I learned a lot, and I was able to follow instructions pretty well. I hope to do more of this kind of activity in the future, which we most likely will.

Monday, January 21st

Tell me about your three day weekend. How was it? What did you do? Elaborate!

My three day weekend was pretty boring. I went to the skatepark with my friend, but it was really windy and hard to do anything. After that, I spent the night at his house and we played Rockband until two in the morning. The rest of the time, I just sat at home doing nothing productive.

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted it, I should be able to use it."

I believe this is wrong. If I posted a painting I made, and put it online for people to see it an enjoy it, then they should not be able to use it for their own use. They should ask permission first, and if they don't receive permission then they cannot use it.

Monday, January 13th

What do you know about plagiarism? What do you know about plagiarism on the internet? How do web design, the internet and plagiarism all effect each other? Explain.

Plagiarism is taking someone's work, and claiming it to be yours. On the internet it's easy to, for example, take a picture off of the internet, and upload it and say you made it. It's even easier with an essay or paper, because all you have to do is copy and paste it. In web design, you can take someones work and put it onto your website, and claim that you made it.

Friday, January 10th

What do you already know about web design? How it works? Programs you can use? Tools that exist? Anything.

I don't know much about web design. I know there is HTML code involved, but I don't know much about it. I know that Go Daddy hosts domains for a cheap cost. That's pretty much it, I've never done anything that had to do with web design before.
